An independent celebrant is someone trained to write and lead ceremonies for weddings, funerals, namings, vow renewals and anything in between. Unlike a registrar or a religious officiant, a celebrant works with you to create a ceremony that's completely personal. No fixed script, no restrictions on venue or content.

A registrar is a legal official. They keep the ceremony short, follow a set script, and can only marry you in a licensed venue. A celebrant writes the ceremony from scratch with you, can marry you anywhere, and gives you a proper, personal experience. In England and Wales, the legal marriage happens at the register office separately. On your actual wedding day, I'm the one leading the ceremony that matters.

In England and Wales, no (not yet). But the workaround is easy. Most couples pop to their local register office in the few weeks before the wedding, sign the paperwork in about ten minutes, and pay around £80. Then the celebrant ceremony on the day itself is your real wedding. Happy to walk you through it.

Yes. It's a long-established, non-religious way to welcome a child and formally rope in godparents, guideparents or special adults. No legal standing (the birth registration handles that), but every bit as meaningful as a christening.
